REG Deamer, my uncle, asked if I could through The Press express his sincere thanks and appreciation to the York Hospital for their first-rate care administered to himself and his late wife, Sheila, over the years.

Reg has nothing but praise for the skills and knowledge of the doctors and surgeons. The care and compassion and of the nursing staff, the good-quality food, the general demeanour of the people he came into contact with – everyone was pleasant and helpful, with nothing being too much trouble.

The district nurses deserve extra praise for their kindness, sympathy and tenderness. I once asked Reg how he was so well liked by all and sundry in the hospital, and he replied: “You only get out what you put in.”
