AN ENGLAND cricket legend shared his memories in aid of a children's charity.

Former national captain David Gower was at the centre of a fundraising evening for children's leukaemia research charity Leukaemia Busters which saw him talk about his career to BBC South Today presenter Sally Taylor.

More than 100 guests attended the event at the new Hilton Hotel at the Ageas Bowl in West End - the home of Hampshire cricket., raising £6,500.

The evening also included a drinks reception sponsored by the hotel, a three course meal and an auction.

Prizes included two tickets donated by the Ageas Bowl to the upcoming international match between England and New Zealand, tickets to Top Hat given by the Mayflower Theatre, a hotel spa day.

There was also a raffle with prizes from the Ageas Bowl and local businesses.

Leukaemia Busters is based at Southampton General Hospital where it was formed in 1989 by three sets of parents whose children were undergoing treatment for leukaemia and lymphoma.

Mr Gower and his wife Thorunn have been proud patrons of the charity since 2004.

The David Gower Blood Flow Appeal was launched a year ago to raise funds to purchase a replacement vital item of equipment called a flow cytometer for the Simon Flavell Leukaemia Research Laboratory based at Southampton General Hospital at a cost of £75,000.
