AN INTERACTIVE high-energy music show was used to educate Southampton school pupils on the benefits of active travel.

More than 1,700 students at Oasis Mayfield Academy and Bitterne Park took part in the sessions, which featured musician Rio.

The initiative was part of a collaboration between Southampton City Council's 'My Journey' road safety team, Hampshire Fire and Rescue, and Amelix Youth Projects.

Pupils getting involved were taught everything they needed to know to stay safe on the city's roads thanks to the Go Your Own Way tour, which uses facts, messages and games to help make learning fun.

A Southampton City Council spokeswoman said: "The shows are high energy and use innovative ways of learning combining games, quizzes, entertainment and music with performances from an up and coming music artist.

"The incorporation and focus on the music industry adds huge credibility to the show ensuring effective communication with the young audience."

Last year Amelix delivered the show to more than one million students across the nation.
