A violent husband was so angry after his wife had turned down the music in their kitchen that he shot her twice with a BB gun and threatened to slit her throat.

Konrad Kurpias grabbed the ball bearing gun and fire two shots into the stomach of his terrified wife, Southampton Crown Court heard.

Kurpias had been married to his wife Sylwia for six years, subjecting her to violence and aggression when he had been drinking.

And the court heard that he had been so violent that his wife was terrified for her own life.

On the night of March 17, he had been talking with a friend in the kitchen of their home in Southampton when she came downstairs and turned the music down.

Prosecutor Siobhan Linsley said Kurpias became aggressive, grabbed hold of her and put the BB gun against her temple.

The court heard he then threatening: “I will destroy you.”

Kurpias fired two pellets into her stomach before putting a knife to her throat, drawing it across her neck.

Though the friend intervened, he continued making threats. She went to bed crying and he later came upstairs acting as though nothing had happened.

The following morning, she squeezed the wounds and the pellets fell out.

When she tried to phone the police, he pushed her over and she suffered a head wound.

She told the police she had been “terrified and shattered” by what happened, describing how the tension had been building up after he had lost his job.

“The longer he is unemployed, the more he becomes aggressive. I am scared for my life.”

Kurpias, 42, of Weston Lane, Southampton, admitted two counts of causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for 30 months.

The court heard he had convictions in 2009 and 2010 for assaulting her.

Passing sentence, Recorder Stephen Climie told him: “This must have been a terrifying time for the lady. She suffered significant and unpleasant injuries and this is aggravated by the fact there is history of violence from you on her.”

He also banned Kurpias from indefinitely contacting his wife under the terms of a restraining order.
