ULTRAVOX front man and Band Aid hero Midge Ure is just one of the highlights of the newly announced packed Autumn/Winter programme at the Lights in Andover

Venue director, Heather Whittam said: “We’ve everything from comedians who regularly appear on popular TV shows like Mock the Week, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and Have I Got News for You, to 80s music legends, rock tribute acts, jazz and swing orchestras and even enchanting ballet performances.”

Midge Ure returns in September. This time round, as well as playing a selection of his popular hits, such as Vienna, Dancing With Tears In My Eyes and Fade To Grey, he will be revisiting his Celtic roots and performing from his fourth solo album Breathe.

Much loved jazz singer Claire Teal returns with original material and contemporary covers, including hits made popular by her heroes, including Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day and Peggy Lee.

Other musicians performing include Jacqui Dankworth and Charlie Wood, John Otway and Five Star Swing.

Top tribute acts, which always prove to be a hit with audiences, include Think Floyd, Purple Zeppelin, Wings Over Abbey Road and Oas-is, the UK’s best Oasis tribute band.

Jay Rayner, recently voted the best food and drink journalist in Britain, will be visiting The Lights in October. In a very entertaining and typically full-on show, the restaurant critic will examine our fascination with lousy reviews, recall some of his worst nights out and share the most damning reviews his own work has received.

Also in October, Irish comedian Ed Byrne comes to town. Byrne, who is currently starring with his best mate Dara O’Brien in BBC 2s ‘Dara and Ed’s Great Big Adventure’, is a regular fixture on TV and radio, and has enjoyed huge critical and popular success with sold out gigs across the UK.

And making a welcome return is comedian, and professional grumpy old woman, Jenny Éclair. Éclair is touring the country with her ruthlessly funny new tour How To Be A Middle Aged Woman (Without Going Insane).

Others from the comedy circuit paying The Lights a visit include Justin Moorhouse, Katherine Ryan, Rob Beckett and recently added to the listings are Jo Brand, Stephen K Amos and Hal Cruttenden.

“There’s plenty to appeal to younger audiences too with the hugely popular Sing-a-long-a Frozen, Pongo’s Party and other wonderful magical productions. And over the Christmas period, we’ve a range of festive family entertainment and some great party nights. I’m confident there’s something for everyone,” added Heather.

The autumn/winter season runs from September to December. Tickets for some shows sell out quickly so to avoid disappointment make sure you book early.
