ORGANISERS behind a Winchester fete that faced downpours in 2014 said they think this year has been one of their best.
The St Cross Fete on Saturday saw stalls and entertainment set out in the majestic grounds of the Hospital of St Cross.
Entertainment included a bouncy castle, Punch and Judy stand, and for the adults a performance from the Chandler’s Ford Brass Band.
On entering the fete organist Derek Beck could be heard playing in the church, shortly followed by the sound of families laughing and playing.
His wife Jill Beck, secretary to the fete committee, said some 2,000 people turned up.
This year has gone extremely well and has been one of our best years,” she said.
“This is wonderful setting for a fete and the whole of the site is used. There’s been lots of families and people of all ages.
“It was pretty much perfect weather, which after the downpours of last year was a big relief.”
She added that the committee is hoping to raise around £9,000 for homeless charities Winchester Churches Nightshelter and Trinity Winchester.
