WITH nearly 3,000 calories it is the monster breakfast challenge with a difference.

The Jackpot Café in Southampton has relaunched its Hermon Challenge Breakfast which is proving to be a hit with punters.

The beastly breakfast dishes up:

  • Two eggs
  • Two rashers of bacon
  • Two sausages
  • Two hash browns
  • Two slices of black pudding
  • A portion of mushrooms
  • Baked beans
  • Tomatoes

If that’s not enough, it is then dusted off with two slices of toast, a portion of homemade bubble and squeak, two slices of bread and a hot drink choice of tea or coffee in a pint mug.

Daily Echo:

Even if you complete it you have to make sure you go at a good pace as there is a strict time limit of just 20 minutes to gulp it all down.

The calorific breakfast which has to be eaten in 20 minutes was the brainchild of cafe Jackpot Café owner Eddie Peckham who has brought the challenge back after requests from hungry punters.

He believes the trick to completing it is to pace yourself, Mr Peckham added: “You should start off slow and keep a steady pace that’s the best advice I can offer, it is not about the size of the man or woman as usually it’s the skinny people that have completed it.”

Daily Echo:

Since it was relaunched a total of 13 people have braved the challenge, with three managing emerging victorious and winning the t-shirt.
