A WOMAN suffered severe psychological harm when another Southampton University student suddenly walked into her room without an invitation and put his arms around her, a court had been told.

Southampton Crown Court heard that even when she screamed, Runyao Zhang still held on to the fellow student.

Defence barrister David Jenkins told the court that the woman managed to escape.

But even after that Zhang remained there with a blank expression on his face.

“When other students came in, he was still standing there. When the police arrived a few minutes later, he was still stood there,” said Mr Jenkins.

He added that the victim had claimed Zangh had smelt of alcohol but he denied he had been drinking.

Asking for a psychiatric report, Mr Jenkins said: “There is something wrong here which should be explored. He is a loner and doesn’t appear to have many friends.”

However, Judge Peter Henry adjourned sentence, asking the Hampshire Liaison and Diversion group to assist in determining whether a psychiatric report was necessary on Zhang.

The 24-year-old, who lives in Glen Eyre Road, in Southampton, had admitted sexual assault.

He was further remanded in custody by Judge Henry until July 27.
