ABP SOUTHAMPTON has given a city school a welcome donation to help them transform their grounds.

The firm is supporting school grounds charity Learning through Landscapes by helping them to revamp the outside courtyard of Compass School in Millbrook.

The port has donated a range of tools and materials to the project, from wheelbarrows and spades, to forks and old railway sleepers.

The project, which kicked off in September and has been coordinated by Learning through Landscapes, has seen the on-going transformation of the school’s courtyard from an unused, concrete area to a calm hub of plants, fruit and vegetables.

Pupils of all ages have been involved in the handiwork, which has seen them taking care of tasks such as planting strawberries and gooseberries, to laying compost and sleepers.

Port manager at ABP Southampton, Clive Thomas said: “We are extremely proud to have helped this worthwhile cause. Visiting the project and seeing the work in progress was truly fantastic – all of the pupils were getting stuck in and seemed to really enjoy the work they were doing.”

It is hoped that the work will be finished later this summer
