AN ARMY medic killed by a bomb blast in Iraq will be buried just a few miles from where she grew up.

Private Eleanor Dlugosz will be laid to rest near her family home in Swanmore with full military honours. The 19-year-old was killed in Basra two weeks ago.

Scores of family and friends of the popular soldier are expected to attend the funeral service in Bishop's Waltham next Friday, alongside many of Pte Dlugosz Army colleagues.

There will be the six-gun salute for soldiers killed in action. Colleagues will fire three volleys from their rifles into the air in tribute to their fallen colleague.

Pte Dlugosz will be borne to St Peter's Church by a horse-drawn hearse, with her coffin draped in the Union Jack Flag and her Army belt and peaked cap laid on top.

A memorial service to commemorate her life will then be held in the church before the coffin is carried away for a private burial with her family.

Colleagues Up to 20 soldiers from the 3rd Close Support Medical Regiment, to whom Pte Dlugosz had been attached when she died, will be attending the funeral and will also act as pallbearers.

Hampshire Constabulary are expected to help temporarily seal off roads around the church as the hearse makes its way through the town.

Pte Dlugosz was killed alongside three other soldiers in the Middle East when their Warrior armoured vehicle was hit by a massive roadside bomb.

She had been serving with the Royal Army Medical Corp and had been providing medical support to soldiers from the Duke of Lancaster's Battle Group when they were attacked.
