A MAN has been treated by paramedics after falling off scaffolding in Southampton.

He was working on the structure in Belgrave Road, near to the Brook pub, when he fell about 10ft off it at about 10.30am this morning.

Several ambulances rushed to the scene, and a spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said the man, who is in his twenties, was assessed at the scene before being taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was part of a construction crew working on a new block of student flats opposite The Brook.

Phil White, owner of the Carwork garage next door, said the man was injured when his ladder fell on the building's first floor.

Mr White, who called the emergency services, said: "I heard a crash and looked around and there was this ladder on the floor and saw a pair of legs and I gathered that something had gone wrong.

"He was on the ladder and it fell off, he wasn't too badly hurt, he was talking.

"He was ok, there was nothing majorly wrong with him, nothing life threatening.

"There was about four ambulances, a couple of the paramedics got up there and put a block and tackle up and they got him down."
