BATTEN down the hatches as strong winds are expected to hit Hampshire tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as gusts of up to 50 miles an hour are set to sweep across the county.

The latest spell of bad weather comes after torrential downpours chaos to a number of events across the county.

It caused part of the Duke and Duchess Cambridge day of supporting Hampshire sailor Sir Ben Ainslie and his crew in the America’s Cup World Series to be cancelled.

The Romsey Community Games and Sports Fair was cancelled along with the Daily-Echo backed Jock Oram Duck race in Meonstoke, while the popular Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show was cut short due to the torrential rain.

The winds which will hit the county from 6am to 7pm are a product of a low pressure system which will sweep across the South coast.

Met office forecaster Simon Partridge, said:”We are expecting strong and gusty winds, coastal areas could see possible winds of up to 50 miles per hour and 40 miles per hour winds inland.

“The winds are unseasonably strong, which is the reason we have issued the warning.”
