CHILDREN with special needs and life-limiting conditions are to receive a boost thanks to a curry-and-quiz night in Hampshire.

The event, attended by four sporting legends from the county, raised more than £16,000 for the Flutterby charity and linked Sophia’s House.

Held at Kuti’s restaurant in Southampton, 100 guests dug deep for the cause.

Flutterby helps improve the lives of physically and mentally impaired children from low income families in the UK.

This is achieved through private therapy, which is not provided by the NHS, in a relaxed atmosphere at Sophia’s House, a treatment clinic in Bursledon. Conditions supported by the evening include cerebral palsy, autism, Asperger’s and Down’s syndrome.

Patrick Trant, Flutterby’s trustee and the chairman of a local engineering group, organised the

fundraiser.

He said: “Flutterby is close to our hearts in our family.

"These situations make you realise how hard it must be for families who can’t afford to access extra help from professionals. The event was a great success, raising more than £16,000 on the night.”

The companies, organisations and individuals who took part were: PT Contractors, R&M Electrical, Lloyds Bank, CMA, Leon Crouch, Sophia’s House, Patterson Reeves & Partners, Bunzl-Greenham, Selwood and Access

Engineering.

Four of the guests were familiar TV faces to many – former Hampshire and England cricketer Shaun Udal and Saints legends Laurie McMenemy, Mick Channon and Matt Le Tissier.
