A SAILOR has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by the boom of a yacht in the Solent today.
The man was struck by the boom of a 50m schooner, of which he is understood to be a crew member, near Osborne Bay.
Coastguard rescue 104 from Lee-on-Solent was scrambled to the scene while the Bembridge Lifeboat Crew also attended.
The coastguard helicopter transported him to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and he is said to have suspected head injuries but was conscious and breathing.
