JOE Weatherley and Brad Taylor batted Hampshire to a Second Eleven Trophy win against Glamorgan at the Ageas Bowl.

Opener Weatherley made 111 (119 balls) and Taylor an unbeaten 74 (64 balls) as Hampshire won by six wickets with eight balls to spare.

Brad Wheal (8-1-33-3) and Jackson Bird (10-0-37-2), whose wickets came courtesy of catches for wicketkeeper Lewis McManus, were the pick of the bowlers as Glamorgan made 257-8 from their 50 overs.

There was also a wicket apiece for Moin Ashraf (8-0-40-1), the trialist from Yorkshire, off-spinner Taylor (9-0-41-1) and Basil Akram (7-0-49-1).

Devon all-rounder Ryan Stevenson began his four-day trial with 0-40 from eight overs.

Weatherley lost opening partner McManus for six in the third over of Hampshire’s reply.

But he put on 95 with Aaron West (29) for the second wicket only for off-spinner Kieran Bull to dismiss the trialist from Essex and Sean Terry (three) in successive overs.

After a stand of 68 in 11 overs withTaylor, Weatherley was bowled by opening bowler Dewi Penrhyn Jones, with 76 still needed from the last 72 balls.

But Taylor, who hit eight fours and a six, ensured that Hampshire reached their target with more than an over to spare with the help of Andy Gorvin’s unbeaten 29.

Hampshire have won three of their five games and complete their group campaign against Kent at Canterbury next Thursday.

Taylor will not be available as he is in the England squad for next week’s one-off Under-19 ‘Test’ against Australia at Chester-le-Street along with Hampshire teammates, Tom Alsop and Mason Crane.
