A BIKER was seriously injured in a crash in Hampshire.

The 25-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries after he was involved in a collision with a van at Holbury in the New Forest last night.

His condition is currently described as serious but stable.

Emergency services attended the scene after a white Ford Transit collided with a blue Yamaha motorbike on the A326 near to the Holbury roundabout, opposite Old School Close.

Officers are appealing for witnesses following the collision which occurred at about 5.15pm.

The road is currently cordoned off while officers undertake a forensic examination of the scene.

It is likely to remain closed for the next few hours, and a diversion through the nearby industrial estate is signed.

The driver of the Transit, a 33-year-old man, was not injured. He is currently speaking with police officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. 

A spokesman for South Central Air Ambulance said a second person was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital as a pre-cautionary measure.

Officers would urgently like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision.  Anyone who did is urged to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting Operation Free.
