PLANS to create a new restaurant and cafe on a Southampton high street are set to go before planning chiefs.

Jinfeng Chan has filed an application to build an "oriental dessert boutique" in a vacant unit on Portswood Road that was formerly a charity shop.

The plans if approved would see a 100sq m cafe in the unit which would be open between 11am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday.

Ten representations have been made by residents living near the scene, who have raised concerns that the new cafe would have an "adverse impact on the amenity of nearby residential properties from noise disturbance".

Other residents have said that there is already an "over provision" of cafes, fast food outlets and restaurants on the road while a proposed extractor fan would be "unsightly".

However the council's planning and rights of way panel has been recommended to approve the plans at its next meeting on Tuesday (August 4).
