THE MAN convicted of killing a Southampton woman with a shampoo bottle has been jailed for life.

Daniel McBride has today been sentenced to 29 years in prison for killing Majella Lynch, who died after a shampoo bottle was removed by doctors from her abdomen.

Her death was the result of an infection she received due to the bottle being inside her.

McBride, 43, refused to appear in court today to hear his sentence. He also refused to appear yesterday.

The Honourable Mr Justice Akenhead said: “Majella Lynch was 51 when she died on April 20 2014. She came from a happy family background, the youngest of three with an older brother and sister.

“Having secured good grades in GCSE, she held down good positions at the Coal Board and NHS. She was a very attractive woman with lots of friends.

“Having to give up her young son for adoption and following the death of her mother in 1996 and of her father in 1998, she descended into chronic alcoholism and moved from Coventry down to Southampton.

“Although homeless and an alcoholic for many years, she was able to make and keep friends and eventually about three years before her death accommodation was provided for her in a basement flat at St Mary’s Road.
