RAIL users heading through parts of Hampshire are advised to head through Southampton Central train station due to signalling failures.

All lines between Haslemere and Petersfield are blocked due to a signalling failure in the Haslemere area.

Passengers heading to stations via Portsmouth are advised by South West Trains to head to via Southampton Central if possible.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 mins or diverted at short notice.

Stations at Liphook, Liss, Petersfield and Rowlands Castle will not be served and a replacement bus service is in operation. Disruption is expected until the end of service on Sunday August 2.

A spokesman for the rail operator said: “Our signalling team reported a fault with the signalling equipment between Petersfield and Haslemere at 10:59 on Friday 31 July. When our engineer arrived on site, they reported extensive electrical damage to an essential piece of signalling equipment.

“The repairs that will be needed are currently being established however, due to the extensive damage caused there is likely to be disruption on this route throughout the weekend.
