THEY are the hard-working binmen who put a smile on this grandmother’s face on a weekly basis.

Jill Matthews says the crew working her road in Southampton have made sure she hasn’t missed collections when others would not have put in the extra effort.

And with the help of the Daily Echo the 66-year-old wanted to thank them for all of their efforts.

Jill was so impressed by the service she received from the crew that visit her home in Outer Circle every Monday that she contacted us to let us know.

And now we want to hear if you have an heroes in the public sector whether it’s council staff, the NHS or the emergency services.

Mother-of -hree and grandmother-of-nine Jill said: “I find them friendly, happy and considerate, we have a chat and a wave.

“If I see them, and haven’t put my bin out, they ask me if I’d forgotten and would take it for me.

“They put the bins back as best as they can and also they are clean. If I’ve had stuff I’m not sure which bin to put it in they will sort it for me.

“The council workers I have had have all been good, they are clean working and helpful.”

The Daily Echo reader continued: “One time when I was taking my neighbour’s bin out when she was away I didn’t have time to take my own one out, but when they came one of them asked me where it was and went and got it from my house.

“People moan about workers and they need a bit of recognition.

“They were absolutely over the moon to get some recognition, they were very pleased.”

Do you know a public servant who deserves recognition for their efforts?

It could be a nurse who made an extra effort with your treatment to make sure your hospital treatment went as smoothly as possible, or a council worker who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help you.
