A CAMPAIGN to save a paddling pool for children in Totton has been boosted by a fundraising event.

Several hundred people attended on Saturday for a disco, kids rides, a tombola, performances by the Rachael Evans Dance School and an evening concert by Just Millie

Around £1,300 was raised for the battle to stop the Testwood paddling pool being closed by the town council.

The event was held at the Testwood Club on Salisbury Road.

The Daily Echo reported earlier this month that the pool is currently shut due to safety fears over the lack of an automatic chlorine treatment system.

The system would cost up to £18,000, and a review looking at whether the town needs three paddling pools.

Lee Neale, event organiser, described the turn-out as "fantastic. It went a hell of a lot better than I thought. I was quite nervous as it was all last-minute planning. But we were overwhelmed by the support from the community."

Mr Neale said the event had also boosted the Testwood Club.

He said: "Don't let another social club die. Testwood working man's club has been a well established venue for many years now. Unfortunately where times have changed the stigma of a working man's club has been detrimental to many clubs around often ending in closure.

"Testwood club is one that we don't want to lose and if you only come along you would see this is not a dated venue but in fact an amazing music venue with first class acts and artists."

The club is anon-profit organisation run by its members.

Mr Neale paid particular thanks to Ken Chalk for getting his chest and armpits waxed, to Rachael Evans dance school, R.Townsend family funfair and to all the local business who supported the event.
