ENVELOPES and emails will be opened with trepidation today as hundreds of students across Hampshire receive their A-level and BTEC results.

Years of work comes down to today as students map out their futures based on what they have achieved in their further education.

And it looks like a bright one for many of them as colleges and sixth forms across the region once again posted outstanding results.

At Bitterne Park Sixth Form students secured their best ever pass rate in their short, four-year history with a perfect 100 per cent.

Olivia Murphy, Head of Sixth Form, said: "We are delighted that this year's A-level results are our best yet at Bitterne Park Sixth Form. This is testament to the hard work and dedication from all the students and staff. Now in our fourth year the sixth form continues to go from strength to strength. Well done to all our students on their results."

St. Anne’s Catholic School Sixth Form was also celebrating a high average UCAS point score of 329 and a high pass rate of 98 per centof Year 13 students passing their A-levels which is an increase on results from this time last yearThe number of high-level exam results to celebrate continues with 23.5% of results at either an A or A* grade and an impressive 52.4% of results being achieved at grades A*, A or B.

Headmistress Miss Bourne is delighted with the results: “Many congratulations to our hard working students who have achieved excellent results this year, those who have remained at St. Anne’s as well as those who have joined us from schools across the city and Hampshire. It is clear from the continually high achievement of our Sixth Form that we are extremely well placed to help our students through the ever-narrowing doorway into Higher Education."

Very warm thanks to our students’ families and teachers for their invaluable support over the last two years. The impact of the care, support and guidance students are given at St Anne’s Sixth Form College can be seen in these superb results.

Provisional results from Itchen College also suggest there is cause for celebration with a two per cent improvement on their overall pass rate to 97.

Independent King Edward VI School again produced outstanding A-level results with 83 per cent of students passing their A-levels with grades at A*, A or B with over 19 per cent at A*40% of students gained 3 A grades or more. 9 students, 10% of all our university applicants this year, have offers for places at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge and over four fifths will proceed to Russell Group universities.

Head Master, Julian Thould, comments: “We are again delighted that our students have gained such excellent results. They show what persistent hard work and excellent teaching can achieve. Congratulations go to all of those who leave King Edward’s for university after such well-deserved success.”

Despite a turbulent year, Totton College still had cause to celebrate the hard work of its students and staff through a difficult time. Students studying BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas (equivalent to A-Levels) in Performing Arts, Sport, Public Services, Health and Social Care all achieved 100 per cent pass rates with a high percentage awarded Distinction grades. In addition, all students studying Hair and Beauty Level 3 courses achieved 100 per cent pass rate We are also very pleased with the success of our students who have just completed their A Level studies, with pass rates of over 99%.

Interim Principal, Jo Landles commented. “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students on their achievements and to thank our team of dedicated staff who have worked very hard to support and encourage our students in gaining their qualifications, we wish them all well in their future studies and careers.”

Well done to our students who have been accepted to study at university and those that are heading directly to employment. Just one example of our BTEC students who performed particularly well is Naomi Crowe, she was awarded a triple Distinction* in BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services (equivalent to three A Level A* grades). This impressive result means that she will be accepted by her first choice, The University of Winchester, to study Criminology.

Richard Taunton Sixth Form students achieved an A-level pass rate of 98 per cent. Almost two thirds of students gained A*-C grades whilst there was also a 100 per cent pass rate on Extended Diplomas.

Principal Alice Wrighton said: “I am always delighted at this time of year to see so many of our young people progressing confidently onto university and into the workplace, as a result of their hard work and the excellent preparation our staff provide.The high quality of our teaching and learning continues to be one or our greatest strengths, as demonstrated by these excellent results."

Maintaining an overall pass rate of 99%, Brockenhurst College is toasting the success of its A-level students as half gained A*-B grades, with three quarters of all students achieving A*-C grades across all subjects.

Principal, Di Roberts CBE said: “Once again, Brockenhurst College students have attained outstanding A-level results and I am tremendously proud of their individual achievements." I also take pride in the overall success of the College and take this opportunity to thank the staff and parents for the part they have played in our students’ achievements. This is, as always, a great day of celebration for us all and I wish all the students who leave us today every success for the future.

"Peter Symonds students have surpassed the excellence of their predecessors and once again maintained a pass rate of 99 per cent.

Students have performed better than last year, with 83 per cent achieving grades A*-C and 63 per cent achieving grades A*-B at A-level.

Principal Stephen Carville said: “I am truly astounded at and immensely proud of what our students have achieved this year. It is incredible to see that these young people, who demonstrate such incredible commitment to, and enthusiasm for studying, have managed to not only do so supremely well, but also surpass the excellent results of last year.”

Barton Peveril students also worked to secure a pass rate of 98 per cent and 76 per cent of grades are at A* to C.

Alongside their A-levels, many of our students chose an Extended Project as preparation for university and 67 per cent of them gained A* to B.

The Arnewood School in New Milton also recorded its best ever A-level results.

Not only has the school seen 100% of its students pass this year but 80 per cent achieved grades A* to C, 46% A* to B and 20% were flying high by achieving A* and As.

Headteacaher, Nigel Pressnell, said: “This has been an outstanding set of results from an outstanding group of students.

“They have been a credit to the school throughout their years of study and we wish them every success with their futures.”

Executive headteacher Chris Hummerstone added: “We are very pleased to see that our post 16 standards continue to be very high and congratulate all involved in this year’s excellent results.”
