A SOUTHAMPTON man is demanding answers from a city vet after his cat escaped an animal box and ran off into a city centre park.

Lawrence Walters says the PDSA staff at the Mount Pleasant Road vets had left his cat’s box insecure which resulted in his 14-year-old cat Sabrina escaping.

The 64-year-old had left Sabrina at the vet after she suffered cuts and other lacerations following a fight with another cat.

After picking her up, he got off the bus at Vincent’s Walk in the city centre, where Sabrina managed to break loose from her box and ran off into Houndwell Park.

Mr Walters, who lives in Weston, has owned Sabrina since she was an eight-week-old kitten and has been searching Houndwell Park every morning in a bid to find her.

He has also put up posters of Sabrina, pictured below, and contacted the RSPCA.

Daily Echo:

He said: “I am out of my mind, I have done everything possible to find her, losing her is absolutely gut wrenching for me, it feels like I’ve lost my right arm.

“The front just fell off and she ran off like a rocket.

“I was shocked when it happened, I just can’t believe it because I’ve used the PDSA lots of times before and it’s never happened before.”

A spokesperson for the PDSA confirmed they have launched an investigation.

She said: “We take the care of our animals very seriously and we are working closely with the owner and our team to understand the circumstances surrounding what happened.

“It is always extremely upsetting when a beloved pet goes missing and we are doing everything we can to support and assist the client.”

Sabrina is described as black and white and also had some sections of her fur shaved following treatment at the vet.

If anyone knows Sabrina’s whereabouts they are urged to contact Mr Walters on 02380 422 730.
