TORRENTIAL rain forced the partial closure of a major city road after wet weather continued to batter the south coast.
Police shut two lanes of Millbrook Road West due to a barrage of wind and rain throughout the morning flooded sections of the road.

Motorists and pedestrians are being advised to be careful on the road near Millbrook Train Station due to the huge amount of surface water in the area.
A Southampton City Council statement said: “Police have closed lanes one and two temporarily due to the surface water.”
The road reopened around 1.15pm.
Daily Echo reader Paul Evans took a number of photos and video, showing the extent of flooding in Grange Road and Woolston Road in the city.
He said that most drivers were turning around once they saw the water, but one bus driver was brave enough to tackle it.

Reader Ricky Wallis sent in photos of Fus hairdressers in Hinkler Road, Thornhill, which has closed while staff try and get all the water out.
In fact, the buildings are 'leaking' from the inside out, due to the sheer amount of rainwater.
In Woolston, police and firefighters helped rescue a man from a car which got stuck in flood water on Bridge Road.

At the National Oceanography Centre, Lauren Noakes posted a video of the "lashings and lashings" of rain which battered the centre.

In Bitterne, Bitterne Road is flooded near the junction with Somerset Avenue, according to local MP Royston Smith, who has posted these photos on Twitter.

Elsewhere, a fallen tree is causing delays on the railways and at the Ageas Bowl, groundsman Karl McDermott posted a photo of huge puddles covering the pitch.

As reported earlier, a sink hole has opened up on the A27, causing delays in Titchfield.
In the New Forest, the Weatherfile service, which is based in Milford-on-Sea, reported that they recorded as much as 58.4mm (2.3ins) of rainfall today at the measuring station near Lymington.
In Winchester, the High Street and parts of Stanmore have been flooded, also.
Manhole covers were overflowing near the Buttercross during a period of heavy rain at around noon.

Standing water is building on roads in Stanmore and Winnall, though no incidents have yet been made public by civic or highways authorities.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning until 5pm this evening after bad weather in recent days, and said the additional water could caused localised flooding and disruption to transport.
In western regions of the country up to 20-30mm of rain was forecast to fall in between two and three hours, with up to 40mm in some areas.
