TRAFFIC tailbacks are being reported on a major Hampshire motorway after a rush-hour crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the two-vehicle collision, which happened on the M3 northbound at junction 12 near Eastleigh at about 7.40am.

Lanes two and three were closed and heavy traffic built up in both directions, with congestion reported as far back as the M27 to the south and junction 11 at Winchester to the north.

South Central Ambulance Service sent two crews to the scene and assessed nine possible casualties, but none were injured or taken to hospital.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101.

Police have blamed delays on the southbound carriageway on 'rubberneckers' who were slowing down to have a look at the crash scene.

All lanes had reopened by 8.55am, although long delays remained on both directions of the motorway.
