MORE than 1,000 properties in Hampshire were without power this evening due to a major power cut.

The power cut happened at about 4.30pm in Hedge End and 1,100 homes and businesses were without electricity as a result.

But power was restored to the area by 7.15pm after work by SSE engineers.

An SSE spokesman said: "The investigations are still ongoing. There was a fault in the high voltage network and we are not sure exactly what the cause was.

“We would like to offer our apologies to anyone who was affected by the inconvenience that was caused.”
