THE world famous Red Arrows are set to entertain the crowds at Southampton Boat Show, it has been revealed.

The squadron was meant to fly over Southampton already this year but bad weather made conditions too dangerous.

On no fewer than three occasions fans have been left disappointed as rain and wind combined to scupper any chance of a flyover.

So those attending Southampton Boat Show which starts in ten days will hope keep their fingers crossed for fair weather to allow the team to soar, loop and roll in the sky over the city.

The boating festival will be held in the city for the 47th time and is set to feature one of Europe's largest purpose-built marinas.

Adrien Burnand, MDL Marinas head of marketing, said: "The Southampton Boat Show is a real highlight of the boating calendar for us, and a show at which we really enjoy exhibiting.

"We look forward to welcoming visitors, along with our existing berth holders for exclusive hospitality, and have lots of exciting events planned.

"The show also gives us a great opportunity to recognise the achievements of our staff and the young people receiving their sail training awards."

While the Red Arrows are due to make their appearance on Saturday, September 12, there are a host of other events organised during the 10-day show.

There will be more than 600 exhibitors, with more showing space than ever before and a host of new companies making displays.

Ladies day makes its return and will be held on Thursday, September 15, while the Earl of Pembroke tall ship will grab the attention of all who attend.

On-the-water attractions include an adventure river canoe ride, a "platinum experience" provided by Sunseeker Charters, and the chance to get on board a 72-foot Volvo Ocean Race vessel.

Each day also focuses on issues such as developing skills, tourism and participation, and environmental sustainability.
