THERE'S more to winning a beauty pageant than looking good in a swimsuit.

Southampton’s Aryana Vashisht organised a cake sale at her workplace as part of her bid to take the title Miss Grand UK.

Contestants have to run a fundraising event for the service charities Help for Heroes and Combat Stress so Aryana put her baking skills to good use.

Aryana sold her wares at the offices of solicitors Shoosmiths at Solent Business Park where she works as a legal secretary.

The 27-year-old is through to the final of Miss Grand UK which takes place at Oxford Town Hall on Saturday night (September 5).

Four winners, one for each of the four home nations – one of whom will be crowned Miss Grand UK - will earn a place in Miss Grand International to take place in Thailand.

There’s a also a prize for the contestant who raises the most money for charity so before they take to the stage in the evening the girls are heading for the streets of Oxford armed with collection buckets for H4H and Combat Stress.

Aryana, who also presents a show on radio station Unity 101, is no stranger to beauty contests taking part in the Miss England contest as a teenager and reaching the finals of Miss Universe in 2011.

She is being sponsored by Karen Peake, a make-up artist from Southampton, who specialises in helping people who have lost hair or breasts as a result of chemotherapy.

Aryan said: “She really is an amazing woman and I am lucky to have her as my sponsor.”
