A FREE event will launch the latest exhibition at Southampton's City Art Gallery.
The launch on September 17 will mark the start of the Ben Johnson exhibition Spirit of Place: Paintings from 19689 to the Present.
He is described as one of the "finest painters of structure and light of our time", with his work harking back to the Renaissance and more modern artists and movements such as Kandinsky, Tatlin and the Bauhaus.
Most of his work has been commissioned for private collections and so has rarely been seen in public galleries, and this exhibition will be the first ever retrospective to look at his career.
The event runs from 6-8pm at the gallery and is free to attend, although anyone wanting to do so should register by emailing art.gallery@southampton.gov.uk or calling 02380 834536.
