A HAMPSHIRE teenager who died after being hit by a train has been named.

The family of 15-year-old Amber Jackson paid tribute to her today describing her as their "gem" and that she would be always missed.

Amber, of Bitterne Park, Southampton, was struck and killed by a train at Bitterne Station on Tuesday at around 11.40am.

In a statement released today through British Transport Police, Amber’s family said: “Amber was our gem. She was bright, beautiful, funny and vivacious.

"She was kind and she was gentle.

“We will miss her always and be forever grateful for the short time we had her in our lives.

“She has left a void that can never be filled.

“You are in our hearts forever, gorgeous girl. – Mummy, Daddy, Imogen and Dom.”

A British Transport Police spokesman said Amber’s family was being supported by specially-trained officers.

He said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Officers from the British Transport Police and Hampshire Police attended alongside paramedics.

It is the second tragedy to hit the school recently, after 17-year-old Jay Cheshire died after being found unconscious in Riverside Park in July.
