A CONTROVERSIAL wind farm project that would see up to 121 turbines built off the Hampshire coast will be thrown out by planners, it has been reported.

Campaigners have battled against the £3.5billion plans for the Navitus Bay project, which would be constructed just 12 miles from the Hampshire coast.

Navitus Bay Development Ltd, which is behind the scheme, initially wanted to build 194 turbines at the site before technological advances enabled this number to be cut.

As reported by the Daily Echo the machines would still be up to 200 metres tall and a group titled Challenge Navitus has vigorously opposed the plans.

And it has now been reported that the plans will be thrown out due to fears the development would jeopardise the UNESCO World Heritage Site status of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.

Conservative MP Richard Drax has been vocal in his opposition to the scheme, with a decision expected on or before September 11.
