TAKE a big pink fun bus full of sequins, glitter, lycra and wigs, add two drag queens and a transvestite and take them on a ride through the Australian outback and you have all the ingredients for a wacky, wild and witty night at the theatre.

If all that doesn’t sound quite colourful enough, there’s always some bright and bold dance routines to disco classics like It’s Raining Men and Hot Stuff and plenty of divas and interestingly placed ping pong balls to add to the mix.

Based on the movie of the same name, this joyous road trip is returning to the Mayflower Theatre for a second stint, this time starring former Blue heartthrob Duncan James as Tick.

Drag act Tick recruits two of his oldest and campest pals to journey from Sydney to Alice Springs to put on the show of their lives - and meet his son for the first time.

It's a role which needs to strike just the right balance between the bold, brash bravado of his alter ego and the fragile father, trying to get it right.

James does it exceptionally well and with such a perfect accent that you close your eyes and it's Jason Donovan on stage.

Daily Echo:

Open your eyes and he quite rightly uses every opportunity to show off his rather impressive physique.

Simon Green as Bernadette and Adam Bailey as Felicia play the warring queens with aplomb, but also show a softer side.

They head up a wildly talented cast, who richly deserved their standing ovation last night.

With some of the most spectacular costumes in musical theatre - everything from giant cupcakes to emus - and a huge disco ball, it's the perfect recipe for a sparkling night out.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert runs until Saturday.
