ROMSEY Male Voice Choir hit the right notes with an armed forces charity.

Choristers raised £1,500 for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal during the choir's 'Songs for Poppies' concert at the Abbey United Reformed Church in Romsey.

And all the cash raised at the concert - conducted by the choir's musical director Marion Maxey -will help support injured service men and women, war veterans and their families.

Romsey Male Voice spokesman Peter Larkin said the choir entertained a "near capacity audience" singing a wide range of songs from the Cole Porter Medley to Chatanooga Choo Choo,.

He added special young guests at the concert were piano soloist Catherine Pirnak and pianist Andrew Harrison-King.

Mr Larkin said the choir was pleased to invite Romsey Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal organiser Mrs Kath Garland to a rehearsal evening at Romsey Baptist Church, where choir's chairman Geoff Skinner presented her with a cheque for £1,500.

Romsey Male Voice Choir has two more concerts planned for this year.

The next is on Saturday October 24 at St John's Church in Lockerley where the choir staged its first concert in 1966 - a year after it was formed.

And on Friday November 20 the choir is holding its bi-annual 'Generations Concert' at Romsey Abbey.

Mr Larkin said the 'Generations Concert' would give concert-goers the chance to be entertained by both young and more mature singers and musicians.
