MAJOR disruption is expected on trains between Southampton and London after a man was hit by a train this morning.

The line between Woking and London Waterloo is closed after the incident, which happened at Surbiton at about 7.30am.

It has caused delays to South West Trains services and trains scheduled to arrive in Southampton from Waterloo are currently running at least an hour late.

Police said the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are working to identify him.

Disruption is expected to last until about 4pm today.

South West Trains say they are running a " significantly reduced train service" between Woking and London Waterloo.

Trains between London Waterloo and Woking (stopping trains) are now running with severe delays Trains between London Waterloo and Guilford via Cobham are now running with severe delays Trains between London Waterloo and Hampton Court will are now running with severe delays Trains between London Waterloo and Guildford via Epsom are now running with severe delays - Trains between London Waterloo and Exeter/Salisbury will only run between Basingstoke and Exeter/Salisbury - Customers will need to use alternative services between London Waterloo and Basingstoke and change there to complete your journey, please be advised that connections cannot be guaranteed.

Trains between that run between Waterloo and Haslemere (stopping services) that start or terminate at Haslemere will run between Guildford and Haslemere only in both directions. Some of these journeys may still be cancelled entirely.

Trains between London Waterloo and Basingstoke (Stopping Services) will only run between Woking and Basingstoke in both directions. Customers will need to use alternative services between London Waterloo and Woking.

Trains between London Waterloo and Alton) will only run between Woking and Alton in both directions.

Customers will need to use alternative services between London Waterloo and Woking Trains between Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour via Eastleigh, will only run between Woking and Portsmouth.

Customers will need to use alternative services between London Waterloo and Woking While we work to introduce these service changes customer may see trains that are still running on the routes listed above and further ad hoc alterations are also possible.

Southern will accept customers between London Victoria/Clapham Junction and Epsom/Dorking/Portsmouth Thameslink will accept customers between Elephant and Castle and Wimbledon London Underground will accept customers travelling between Major London Stations and to Wimbledon & Morden.

Great Western Railway will accept customers travelling between Basingstoke/Reading and London Paddington as well as Guildford and Wokingham.
