BOSSES behind a Hampshire hotel’s £1.7 million facelift have revealed that the scheme will create 40 jobs.

A recruitment day is being held at the Burley Manor Hotel today in a bid to fill the vacancies created by plans to transform the former manor house into a restaurant with boutique rooms.

Managers are hoping to hire a wide range of new employees including waiters, spa therapists and kitchen staff.

As reported in the Daily Echo the Grade II listed building has been bought by New Forest Hotels, which is planning to make as raft of improvements without harming its traditional character.

The refurbishment, which is already under way, includes a stylish new restaurant inspired by the relaxed way of life in the Mediterranean.

Newly-appointed head chef James Forman said: “Our dishes will feature superb seasonal ingredients from the New Forest and across the British Isles, crafted into vibrant, rustic dishes with the bold flavours and delicate tastes of the Mediterranean.

“My passion is for simpler food with personality and soul. My aim is to deliver natural, honest food with provenance.” Managing director Michaela Lisle added: “Our vision is to capture the warmth and essence of the colourful Mediterranean landscape, lifestyle and people and blend it with this beautiful, quintessentially English manor.

“We are offering the opportunity to be part of the next chapter in the history of Burley Manor and to join our unique journey.”

General manager Matthew Gardner said the new-look hotel was looking for people who were “passionate about hospitality”.

He added: “Our relaxed, informal approach to guests means that all of our team will need to be welcoming.

“Everyone who comes through the door for our recruitment day needs to come with a smile. Experience isn’t everything – we’re also looking for people with the right attitude.”

The 38-room hotel will remain open during the refurbishment, which is due to finish in December. Managers are aiming to have all the new staff in place by next month.

Apprenticeships will also be available at Burley Manor, including opportunities for kitchen and front-of-house staff.

Today’s recruitment session will take place between noon and 8pm.
