ROMSEY’S first film festival has been hailed a hit.

Organisers are now planning to hold another film festival next year.

This year’s popular event concluded with a Sound of Music singalong at the Plaza Theatre and a gala evening at the town hall.

Festival officials are preparing to put together crowd-pulling events for next year and are seeking comments from the public on the 2015 festival and would they would like to see screened in 2016.

Romsey town centre manager Mark Edgerley said “This year’s event was a successful first effort, we learnt a lot that we need to introduce into next year’s festival, we set out to deliver a fun and inclusive programme and from feedback received we certainly achieved that.”

Organisations and groups involved in the film festival put on by Romsey Town Council, included Raods, King John’s House Museum, Romsey Twinning Association, Romsey Signal Box Project, the National Trust at Mottisfont and the team from Romsey Festival. Bradbeers and Hampshire County Council sponsored the event.

Romsey’s mayor, Mrs Dorothy Baverstock, who came up with idea the for film festival, said: “It was a great pleasure to find there are so many local folk who enjoy going out to watch films.

"This festival builds on the regular town hall screenings throughout the year and was again an indication of fantastic community partnership work we have across Romsey.”
