THE pressure is on for a group of Southampton singers tonight as they compete for a place in the final of a national competition.

Southampton Solent University students Restless Symphony will take part in the semi-final of Gareth Malone’s The Naked Choir on BBC Two, which is aiming to find the best a capella group in Britain.

Anita Okepe, Siobhan Hilton, Tassama Franklyn, Fizzy Dell-Smith, Ioana Simion, Georgie Workman make up Restless Symphony under the direction of popular music lecturer Esther Frake.

As reported by the Daily Echo, the group were strangers from different countries before they came together.

The Naked Choir, so called because all musical instruments have been stripped away, includes songs varying from doo-wop to hip-hop, through gospel to barbershop with material ranging from Elvis to Little Mix.

Tonight the four semi-finalists will be challenged to create a music video that could become an internet hit, complete with killer vocals and choreography.

Once completed, the videos will be screened to a live audience and jury of a capella experts whose votes will decide which three teams go through to the final.

It broadcasts on BBC Two tonight at 9pm.
