FORMER Saints star Rickie Lambert was in Paris during the terror attacks, it has been revealed.

The 33-year-old striker was in the French capital on a short break with his wife when the terrorists launched the rampage – killing at least 120 people.

But an official statement released by his current club West Bromwich Albion reveals the former England international and his wife Amy are safe and well.

The couple are on their way home to Britain.

The Lamberts left for their holiday on Friday before the attacks - which are the worst on French soil since the Second World War - took place.

While enroute Amy posted a Tweet saying: “On route to Paris with the hubby, thank you @ViageoChauffeur for the amazing journey ride.”

Fans became concerned about his welfare as the disaster began to unfold.

But West Bromwich Albion has announced a statement on its official account saying: “The Club have spoken to Rickie Lambert. He & his wife are safe. Rickie wanted to thank all fans for their tweets of concern and support.”

Amy Lambert later tweeted: "On our way back home from Paris, our deepest sympathy to those effected, such a sad day."

Lambert left the Saints in June 2014 when he was sold for £4million to Liverpool – his hometown club.

He joined West Brom from Liverpool in July this year for £3million.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks which killed at least 127 people and wounded 300 more, around 80 of them critically.

A Briton has been confirmed dead following the terrorist attack and officials fear that a "handful" of people from the UK may also have lost their lives in the atrocities.

Authorities in France believe that seven of the attackers responsible for the country's worst night of violence since the Second World War are now dead, including seven who blew themselves up with suicide bombs.

Most of those who lost their lives were at the packed Bataclan nightclub where the Eagles of Death Metal were playing only days after they played at the Engine Rooms in Southampton.

Another attack was at the Stade de France where the French national football team was playing Germany.

Explosions were audible during the game before the full scale of the horror became apparent.

Lambert's former Saints colleague Morgan Schneiderlin - who plays for Manchester United - came on as a substitute in the 80th minute of the game.

There is increased security on the Eurostar and a Paris prosecutor said it is possible there are still other terrorists on the run.

Prime Minister David Cameron was this morning preparing to chair an emergency Cobra meeting as he joined world leaders in condemning the atrocities in Paris.
