A WOMAN had to be cut from her car by firefighters after a crash on the M3.

The woman, who was driving a Volkswagen Golf, was involved in a collision with a Mazda on the northbound carriageway.

Firefighters from St Mary’s station were called to the scene near to junction 14 at about 6pm and had to cut the roof off her car to free her from the vehicle.

It is understood she was then taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

Traffic built up in the area after the crash, which closed three lanes of the motorway.
