THE daughter-in-law of a 77-year-old murdered in her own home told a court of the "horrific" sight she returned to as she arrived home on the night of the killing.

Zohreh Edmonds was giving evidence at Winchester Crown Court as a man stands trial for the second time charged with the murder of Georgina Edmonds.

As previously report, Matthew Hamlen is back in the dock accused of carrying out the killing on Friday January 11, 2008, having previously been acquitted of the crime.

Zohreh Edmonds told jurors how she was driving home to Kingfisher Lodge in the early evening and had called her husband Harry to ask what food she should buy when he told her to come straight home as "something terrible has happened".

Zohreh told how she initially thought something must have happened to their dogs until Harry told her it was his mother, known affectionately by the family as "granny", and it didn't appear to have been an accident.

Jurors heard how Zohreh pulled in to the driveway to see police everywhere and Zohreh described that moment as "horrific".

She told the court that she was "very very close" to Mrs Edmonds, who became like a mother to her following the death of her own in 2000.

Describing her mother in law, Zohreh told the court: "She was meticulous, she kept her house completely spotless. Everything was also spick and span, she was basically very glamorous.

"She was very proud, very house proud and she loved being at Kingfisher Lodge."

Hamlen, 36, denies murder.
