ONE of the nation’s hottest properties brought his DJing skills to a Southampton nightclub.

Idris Elba, best known for his ground-breaking roles in The Wire, Luther, and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, spun records at Switch.

Tickets sold out in record time for the show, a major coup for the city nightspot.

Hotly tipped to take over the James Bond role from Daniel Craig, the 43-year-old Londoner is a Golden Globe Award winner who has also appeared in Hollywood hits including American Gangster and Thor.

He is best known for his roles as Stringer Bell in The Wire and the eponymous Luther on BBC.

But he started out as a DJ long before finding fame on the screen.

Whether spinning surprise sets in small east-London bars or thrilling thousands in the world’s top clubs warming up for Madonna, Idris is considered a top DJ who has performed at Glastonbury, Ibiza Rocks and Pacha.

Idris has also found time to produce remixes and genre-spanning album projects including a remix of Skepta’s crossover hit Shutdown, his own Nelson Mandela inspired mi Mandela album and his Murdah Loves John, inspired by his role as TV Detective John Luther which is picking up radio plays from Annie Mac, MistaJam and Huw Stephens.

He played a two hour set of house and party music at the venue in Above Bar Street.
