A HAMPSHIRE school has issued a warning to pupils and parents after a man tried to entice a 10-year-old schoolboy into his car.

The youngster was walking home when he was confronted by a motorist wearing a hoodie who told him to get into his vehicle.

The boy refused to obey and ran home to tell his mother, who raised the alarm.

It happened near the Asda store in Ringwood Road, Totton, and involved a turquoise-coloured car that drew up alongside the youngster as he walked home from Abbotswood Junior School.

Now all his fellow pupils have been given a letter by the school warning them not to talk to strangers.

The boy’s grandfather, who asked not to be named, said: “He was on his way home from Abbotswood when a man told him to get into the vehicle.

“My grandson said ‘no’ and ran home to tell his mother, who phoned the school and the police.”

The boy’s grandmother said police officers were examining CCTV footage taken in the area to see if the man had been caught on camera.

She added: “My grandson has given a statement to police.

“A man got out of his car near the bus stop outside Asda and told him to get into the vehicle but he refused. No physical harm was done – he’s just a bit shaken up.

“All the pupils at the school have been given a letter reminding them not to talk to strangers.”

A police spokesman confirmed they were investigating reports of a man trying to entice a boy into his car on Wednesday at about 3pm.
