MOTORISTS were urged to avoid a major city road after roadworks caused huge delays.
Highways staff closed two lanes of Redbridge Road westbound and one lane of the Millbrook Flyover to carry out emergency roadworks.
Drivers reported significant delays and tailbacks built up as far east as Mountbatten Road and West Quay Road, while there were also queues on Tebourba Way.
Southampton City Council warned motorists to use alternative routes and the work was completed at about 3.30pm.
