GOOD causes that need a cash boost in a Hampshire community are being urged to come forward.

At the recent annual meeting of the Romsey carnival committee it was announced that £2,500 would be donated to local causes in the area.

Although some has been allocated, there is still more that could be distributed to organisations in need of some extra cash.

The announcement was made during carnival chairman Romsey Town cllr John Ray's gave his annual report.

In it he thanked the new sponsors and those companies who continued their support for the carnival committee.

He said: “We were lucky with the weather for both the summer and winter carnival events.

“This year the committee reinstated the position of senior carnival queen after many years. Lizzie Dutfield has been a great representative for the carnival, as has the carnival queen and attendants. They have represented Romsey with great gusto and dignity.

“The people of Romsey should be congratulated for their support of their carnival which has enabled the committee to donate a total of £2,500 to Mountbatten School Music Group, Romsey Air Cadets, Cupernham Nurture Group, Allsorts Club, Romsey Family Support Group, Romsey Red Cross, Romsey Opportunity Group and to organisations who have helped the committee throughout the year.

“There are three groups that have helped the committee during the year that have made the outdoor events happen. These are the Romsey Town Marshals, the Romsey Air Cadets and the Romsey Army Cadets.

“Without their help these events could not take place.”

The committee would like to hear from Romsey organisations that have not applied for a donation within the last three years.

Organisations have until Monday, February 29, to apply. The application should where possible indicate how the donation would benefit the organisation.
