FIREFIGHTERS have had to close a Southampton road last night to deal with a dangerously positioned chimney.

Crews were called to Bitterne Park Triangle after a chimney was spotted in a twisted position on top of a property.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said they were called around 5pm  to the scene near The Triangle because the chimney was in a “funny position” and could have been dangerous to the public in the stormy weather.

Emergency services closed off the road with diversions going via St Catherines Road.

The spokesperson said that the incident was over and firefighters had fitted and aerial platform to support the structure overnight.

Delays are still expected as traffic eases in the area but the road has been re-opened.
