Commuters are facing lengthy disruption after a body was found on the railway this morning.

The body was found between Woking and Basingstoke, emergency services are currently at the scene.

South West Trains say train services between Weymouth and Waterloo will be diverted between Southampton Central and Woking in both directions.

They expect the disruption and delays to last until 12pm today.

Services between Exeter/Salisbury and London Waterloo will not run between Basingstoke & Waterloo in either direction.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to the line near Basingstoke station on Tuesday, 9 February, to a report of a body near the tracks.

“Officers from BTP and Hampshire Constabulary attended the incident, which was reported at 8.22am.

“Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service also attended, and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the person and establish how they came to be on the tracks.

“A file will be created for the coroner.”
