FIVE great British guitar bands have been added to the Isle of Wight Festival line-up.

Festival-goers will be some of the last to see the full live Status Quo show in action after the legendary rockers announced they would be hanging up their electric guitars after their 2016 tour.

They will be joined by indie brothers The Cribs, rock n roll duo The Kills, Britpop alumni Ocean Colour Scene and festival favourites Mike + The Mechanics.

One of Britain’s best loved rock bands, Status Quo - Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Andy Bown, John ‘Rhino’ Edwards and Leon Cave - will be performing classic hits such as Whatever You Want and Down Down in a special performance.

Renowned for their energetic brand of indie-rock, The Cribs released their sixth album For All My Sisters last year. In the year of their 10th anniversary the band were honoured with the Spirit of Independence award at the Q Awards and Outstanding Contribution to Music at the NME Awards.

Comprised of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, The Kills have been described as rock’n’roll’s best kept secret. Together the duo have released four critically acclaimed albums including their most recent Blood Pressures.

Ocean Colour Scene are an English Britpop band with five Top 10 albums and six Top 10 singles, including The Day We Caught The Train, to date.

Isle of Wight Festival veterans Mike + The Mechanics will once again be delighting crowds with hits such as Over My Shoulder and All I Need Is a Miracle. Genesis founding member Mike Rutherford will be joined by one of the UK’s most prolific R&B singers Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar, who has previously toured with the likes of Rod Stewart and Paulo Nutini.

They join headliners Queen + Adam Lambert, Stereophonics and Faithless on the bill for the festival season opener at Seaclose Park in Newport from June 9 to 12.

Other highlights will include Iggy Pop, Twin Atlantic, Busted, Jess Glynne, Sigma and The Corrs.
