A BUS operator has come on board to support the Zany Zebra trail that will be hitting the streets of Southampton this summer.

Bluestar has become the latest supporter of the public art extravaganza which has been organised by Marwell Wildlife.

The event will see a family-friendly trail of decorated zebra sculptures dotted around the city centre for people to follow.

The Bluestar firm has confirmed that it will be sponsoring one of the sculptures on the trail, a mini-version of which will also be staged at Marwell Zoo.

Bluestar is one of the main bus operators in Southern Hampshire with the majority of services going into the heart of Southampton City Centre.

Nikki Honer, communications manager for Bluestar, said: “Bluestar are proud to sponsor one of Marwell’s Zany Zebras, it’s a great campaign which our customers and the people of Southampton will really enjoy.

“We’re looking forward to telling you what bus routes the zebras will be on when the trail is live.”

The spectacular zebras will create an amazing trail across the city, which will not only entertain visitors and residents but also raise awareness of the plight of the Grevy Zebra breed, with which the zoo undertakes vital conservation work.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to help raise funds for the endangered Grevy Zebras and other wildlife,” said Nikki.

Kirstie Mathieson, project manager for Marwell’s Zany Zebras said: “Marwell’s Zany Zebras will attract hundreds of thousands into Southampton City Centre.

“We are delighted that Bluestar has recognised this exciting and unique opportunity to raise the profile of their services around the city and surrounding area, hopefully encouraging many more trail-goers to travel on the buses to see our gloriously-colourful sculptures.”

The trail will begin on July 16 and run for 10 weeks.
