A BURGLAR was foiled as he tried to break in to a home, after being spotted by an eagle-eyed resident.

The incident in Stanmore Lane in Winchester saw the resident catch the culprit in the process of throwing a brick through the window of his house.

He attempted to detain him but the youth who is believed to be around 20-years-old managed to escape.

The would-be burglar is described as 5ft 11 inches tall, of slim build with dark hair and appeared to be unshaved.

He was wearing a grey rain coat with the hood up. The hood was slightly lighter than the jacket and the coat came down to his waist. He also wore tracksuit bottoms and black trainers and dark gloves.

The incident happened on February 2 at 5.40pm, police are urging people who saw a man run off at that time to call 101 and ask for PC24054 Ben Vanes.
