AN ELDERLY man is fighting for his life after a serious car crash.

Three people have been injured in an accident last night with two suffering serious injuries and a man in his 70s battling potentially fatal wounds.

Motorists were urged to avoid the A339 near Alton last night after a car crash around 7.30pm at Lasham.

The accident involved a silver Toyota Corolla, travelling northbound, and a blue Honda Civic, travelling southbound.

The two occupants of the Toyota, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance.

The man suffered life threatening injuries and the woman suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda, a 41-year-old man, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken to Frimley Park Hospital.

Part of the road by Lasham was closed for recovery of the vehicles and for officers to examine the crash scene.

The road was expected to be closed into the early hours of this morning.
